Buffalo Proofs?
If I can grab a couple opinions on the new Buffalo's that just hit:
How many of you ordered a Buffalo Proof instead of the standard bullion? Both? Just the bullion? Why? Those of you who ordered the Proof's, will you send them to be graded? What grade do you realistically expect to see on them? And what company did you send them to? Many, many thanks for your time. |
Re: Buffalo Proofs?
I ordered a few bullion. I am not into the collectable side gold, just gathering as much weight as I can as a hedge, insurance, whatever you want to call it from the dollar going down down down.
Coin collecting is great, at least you are buying something with real value rather than some people who buy baskets, plates, hummels, stamps, etc. |
Re: Buffalo Proofs?
i just received my buffalo proof today...i requested the cheap $5 shipping method and it was sent fedex priority overnight!
i ordered one as my first proof coin. seems to me that if the mint has a price of $800 then how can it go lower than the original cost? |

I don't plan to sell, so I don't see the pt of getting it graded. |
Re: Buffalo Proofs?
Interesting.
I may be showing a complete lack of understanding on the whole grading system but I thought that a Proof was the best you could get. What do you guys do with the box and papers that came with the Proof after getting it graded? Toss them? |
Re: Buffalo Proofs?
Just thought I'd post a good laugh on this topic. HSN is selling NGC slabbed 'First Day of Issue' Proof Gold Buffalo coins for $1995.99. People are buying them up (over 100 sold in first day, reportedly)!? His (Mike's) salespitch to the audience, "There's only 570 of these made...once they're gone, please UN-DER-STAND that there will be no more, not 571, not 572, only 570 that's it, the end, whoever the lucky buyers are will have a tremendous numismatic piece of history and the others will miss out on this great buy!" Hmmm....I wonder if HSN can sell my Gold Eagles for $1400 to this ill-informed audience.

Re: Buffalo Proofs?
Just got 2 gem brilliant Buffalos today and they are impressive. I'd like to see a proof because it's hard to believe that it can be much better. My gold collection tends toward Kugerrands because I want the most gold I can get for the price but if you can get really nice coins for not much premium, why not?
I do have a few Australian Lunar gold 1 oz coins and I do believe that I like the Buffalos almost as much. Buffalos far above Maples, definitely. |
Re: Buffalo Proofs?
What's the best way of obtaining a Buffalo proof up here in Canada? :call:

Re: Buffalo Proofs?
For some reason I thought ordering direct from the US Mint would be a problem. But apparently not, and their shipping looks reasonable:
How much will it cost to ship items to my international address? The United States Mint will automatically select the delivery method for shipping. The International Shipping charge is a flat fee of $14.95 plus a $2.95 fee per item. For example, if you purchase three Annual Silver Proof Sets to be shipped to your home in France, the United States Mint will charge you $23.80 [$14.95 + (3 x $2.95)] for shipping. This is the only shipping method available for International orders. Please visit our Shipping Information & Return Policy for details. |
